Me and My One-Piece
I read a very interesting statistic yesterday that I want to share with you all:
"Apparel sales - although down 3% - accounted for more than 40% of dollars spent overall in the snow sports market. Snowboard apparel, shell parkas and fleece sales remained strong and another surprising increase of more than 20% in adult one-piece suits shored up the market. "
If any of you have seen me on the mountain, on WSKI, or even out at night at the Rack or the Widowmaker or almost any night of White White World Week, you know that I have a special appreciation for "adult one-piece-suits." If you've asked me about it, I've also probably told you that I am an avid fan of Ebay, where I, along with my sister in-law Saskia, acquire one piece ski suits and other vintage ski wear for cheep prices (hard life I have, huh?).
As some would say, "I like to Rock it Old-School". I would say I just like to be warm, comfortable, and a little stylish at the same time (and also "rock it old-school"). In the world of One-Pieces, Bogners and Killy's are the diamonds of high fashion and, thanks to Ebay, I can buy vintage or used diamonds for around 20 buck!
The above statistic however, was quite startling to me. I've always thought of the one-piece-ski-suit at the suspender and plaid shirts of the ski world. They can be sexy and they're even conventional but, overall, they're just not mainstream or popular. Funny how things change, isn't it? If that sales trend continues, we could soon be in a world where one-piece-ski-suits dominate the slopes, where common place ski pants and jackets are soon the laughing stock of mountain fashion, where even jeans or a football jacket makes sense (okay, maybe not that far... though I do have a sweet pair of 1970's Ski Levi jean overall ski pants...) My question is though, if One-Piece-Ski-Suits soon take over the ski and board world, is that really so bad?
I think everyone could admit to a secret or, in my case, not secret, appreciation of, or even love affair with, one-piece-ski-suits. In fact, Sugarloaf's own board room manager candidly told me that, if ask what article of clothing he would bring if banished to a desert island for the rest of the life, he would bring a one-piece ski suit to "give him shelter from the storm."
In honor of that one secret love affair and in welcoming the new trend in ski wear fashion, and just for plain fun and entertainment, I've decided we, as 'Loafers, need to celebrate with a Unofficial One-Piece Ski Suit/Vintage Ski Wear Day at Sugarloaf on March 22nd. I announced it last weekend on WSKI and am again announcing it here on the Sugarloaf Community.
If you're a little bit apprehensive, don't worry, just look at how cool you too can look in a one-piece:
Remember, March 22nd! It's going to be a day of "epic" proportion!

hi to all, the new season has already started. but here, in the alpes (europe), we have to go to the highest summits find find powder in october.
Pretty nice blog! I am also addicted to one-pieces (not always, but as often as possible). Will this post be continued? I hope so. And I also hope, that one-piece-revival will go on.

i dont think they can really disconnect them. they just need to make it so the traffic is directed AWAY from landings and knolls. and a hip transfer or C box could do that nicely.. then it could all be jumps on one side, rails on the other, with a...

when will be the next snowmaking window? is thanksgiving a possibility?
they are guna disconnect them so that they can both be more full terrain parks on their own. any time theres meging and jumplines togethere there are problems... but this years park is guna be one of the best ever im so stoked for this years park
