Capital Improvements Blog - The Gondi Line Line

Even though the forecasts were promising bright sunny weather yesterday, conditions up on the summit were anything-but for most of the day. That didn't stop us from haul 825 feet of new snowmaking pipe up Gondi Extension though, thanks to a little help from the boys from Royal Trail Crew. Using a skidder, an excavator, and a whole lotta cable, we pulled two 800+ foot pieces of pipe across Spillway Crosscut and then straight up Gondi Extension to the summit. You wouldn't believe how flexible an 800 foot piece of pipe is either. It wiggles all around like a wet noodle.

So with the pipe all in place, now it's a matter of a whole lotta welding. Couplings, hydrants, and tying the new pipe into the existing system. Then it'll be off to new projects on Sidewinder and over at the halfpipe, and with our first frost coming tonight it won't be long before we can fire these new lines up.

The air and water lines on Spillway X-Cut. The line was so long it stretched from Gondi Line over to the top of King Pine.

John parked the excavator at the top of Gondi Line to make sure the pipe didn't veer off down the side of the mountain.

The skidder hauling the pipe over the crosscut.

John headed up the extension in the excavator to help guide the new pipe.

The pictures are cool. I especially like the one in the earlier post looking up Gondi with the heavy equipment in the distance. The expansion of snowmaking is a good thing. More terrain early and more terrain late. I have a couple of questions. If you're going to be making snow on Gondi ext, you'll get more traffic. How is the traffic going to flow onto/over the Spillway crosscut from Gondi ext? The transition at White Nitro can be dicey for both people coming down and people coming across. Also, since the wind occaisionally does a good job of scrubbing Nitro clean, are there plans to do something to help the mm snow stay on Gondi ext?

I have a question on how far down the mountain phase 1 will go. The map shows it all the way to Snowbrook /lower part of Woody Creek. Is this really where it will end or will it somehow end onto the Stubb's Glase condo access trail? Mtnbrew

Ethan, Can you please clarify how access will be gained to the new gladed area? I understand that you can access most of it via the top of King Pine, but what about at the bottom? My understanding is that for now is that this area is accessible by…

Does anyone know what the impact to the cross-country trails and the dog trail above Snowbrook will be? Will we still be able to hike Burnt in Winter?
