If you’ve been paying close attention recently, you might have noticed a few small changes to the Community over the past few weeks. Certainly nothing major, and nothing that will affect the way you interact with other Sugarloafers in this site, but some little things that we think will help to improve your experience.
One new feature is the

Look up the word “stoke” in the dictionary, and you’ll find a handful of different boring definitions that will probably leave you anything but stoked. What you should find, however, is a great big picture of Ben Rush, who took over as Manager of the Sugarloaf Board Room this year. This guy oozes enthusiasm, and it’s…

As you may have heard, Opening Day will likely not be happening Friday. All this lovely warm weather just doesn't do much for snow making. Even so the crews are out there running the guns on the mountain as we speak. Once temperatures cool a bit more we’ll be good and ready to get you up on the mountain.
In the meantime, I figured I could provide you with a little entertainment. My name's Kari and I'm one of your brand spanking new snow reporters. Not to crush your lofty visions of us snow repo…

When the sun starts to mosey on behind the mountain and the lifts shut down for the day, most of us either head home and rest our sore legs or celebrate another day on the hill with a few frosty beverages. We relax, get some sleep, and then head out the next day to find a smooth blanket of s…

Not sure if you all have noticed the little countdown on the left side of the Community homepage, but we're down to just 17 days left until we open for the season. That, my friends, is exciting.
Opening day plans are similar to what we saw last year. Tote Road will be our firs…

Is it possible to be a ski-bum and live in Florida at the same time? Apparently the answer is yes, and you can just ask Ski Shop Manager John Byrne if you don't believe it. John managed a ski-shop in sunny Florida (that is a serious fact) before relocating back to Maine three years ago to take over the reigns of the Suga…

Fall has come in rather quickly here in the mountains, and colors have really popped over the past few days. Not quite peak yet, but we're not far off. Homecoming, anyone?
Projects continue to move along on the mountain, with the new Peavey valve box nearing completion and the ne…

With the new line in place on Gondi Extension crews shifted focus this week to Peavey Crosscut and tying the new mainline into Sidewinder, Narrow Guage, Boardwalk, and Lower Winters Way. Basically what this means is a whole lotta welding and a whole lotta pipe pulling. Tools of choice include two welding trucks, an excavator, and a little tank-like beast we like to call "The Bomb." Once these lines are tied in construction will begin on the new valve box, and then we'll start welding hydrants in…

One of the famous "String of Pearls," the fourteenth hole at Sugarloaf is very manageable but can easily go wrong if you approach it the wrong way. A fairly straightforward drive leaves you with a tricky approach that has no room for error. The front of the green is guarded by the Carrabassett River, while the woods and a green-side bunker require a dead-on second shot. A good drive will make your approach much easier, and in turn give you a good shot at par. Blow the drive and all bets are off.…

Even though the forecasts were promising bright sunny weather yesterday, conditions up on the summit were anything-but for most of the day. That didn't stop us from haul 825 feet of new snowmaking pipe up Gondi Extension though, thanks to a little help from the boys from Royal Trail Crew. Using a skidder, an excavator, and a whole lotta cable, we pulled two 800+ foot pieces of pipe across Spillway Crosscut and then straight up Gondi Extension to the summit. You wouldn't believe how flexible an 8…

This week we started hauling new snowmaking pipe up to the base of Gondi Line Extension on Spillway Crosscut, and began prepping the trail for the new line that will be going in next week. The summit of a 4,237 foot mountain is an interesting place to work, to say the least, so we thought we'd share a few quick photos. Check back for more next week when we'll be hauling pipe up the extension with a huge skidder...

Any owners or guests willing to comment on room improvements underway at the hotel? Most significant replacements/upgrades include beds and sleep sofas by Homecoming, with flat screen TVs and chairs to follow soon after.

As the old saying goes: "Drive for show, putt for dough." Most of us spend the least amount of time practicing it, but nearly half of your score on any given round comes from putting, making it the most logical place to look if you want to shave some strokes. Putting is also the least athletic of any of the shots you'll try, meaning just about anybody be can be a good putter with the right technique and a little practice. Check out these tips from Sugarloaf Pro Scott Hoisington, and next time yo…
