Sugarloaf Community

Hi all,

This unseasonably warm weather looks like it's going to continue through most of the week, and unfortunately it's looking pretty unlikely that we'll be able to open for the season on Friday like we had hoped. Forecasts are calling for a couple windows of cold temps this week and we'll fire up the guns if possible, but an opening day sometime next week looks more likely. We'll take things day by day, and will open up as soon as possible.

So keep an eye on the weather forecast and stay tuned to the Community and the Daily Update for the latest news.

Lets hope that it is updated... I think they could open Friday judging by the pictures. Seems like enough to ski

They could have been referring to old information, since I expect that if there had been a change in plans it would have been posted here.

Channel 13 said Sugarloaf is opening Saturday...
Is this confirmed, or was there some sort of misunderstanding?

I watched the channel 13 news last night and heard Charlie Lopresti say something completely different, so not sure where this came from. In any case, a Saturday opening doesn't look possible at this point. Temps are just too warm. There is not enough snow down yet for us to open, and judging by this morning's forecast we won't be back into snowmaking range until early next week. We'll keep you updated and, trust me, as soon as we have an idea of the precise day we'll be open we will let you know.

2:00 Friday afternoon. The sun just came out in Portland. It must be pushing 65 degrees. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!

Hi all,

Here's the latest update on snowmaking and opening. Judging by our latest weather forecast, it looks like our first good window of snowmaking temps will come Friday night and hopefully stick around through the weekend, meaning that an opening day early next week looks likely. The forecast is still a little far out, but from the sounds of it I think this warm spell may be coming to an end. Obviously if anything changes in regards to the forecast or our snowmaking plan we will let you know.

Hang in there and think cold, we'll be making turns soon.

It seems like it would have made more sense to shut SQ down on a slow tuesday and put the sheaves on and have less windholds then to leave it for later and have more windholds

Thanks for the update. It's nice to know the highly touted sheeve trains will still be installed. I think last year had less wind than '07/'08 and '080/'09 and but it will be interesting to see if they improve the wind resistance of the SQ. I think…

I hope Ethan can fill us in on this one. Many of my Loafer friends and I are puzzled by this question. Last year this was announced as an improvement for the SQ to make it more likely to run in windy conditions.  Nothing was done and the rumor mill…

I guess "they" read my post. Still nothing official about 2010-11 skiing improvements, though the Zipline and Chairlift rides will help make SL more interesting in the noon-ski season. Also, the Zipline may run in winter too.

Well, the old photo gallery on the left is gone. I'll miss her. It was like that old truck rotting beside the garage. Now that she's gone, you realize you really did love her. In other news: That badge thing is hideous. The default colors are nearl…

Why does this site continue to show pictures from "This is a collection of photos of this year's Capital Improvements in progress." and all the pics are from the summer of 2009. The section is captioned "What's new for 2009-10?" In order to make the…

although it wont have any meaning to many skiers it will attract enthusiasts if there was a hike only gladed area or extreme like area over there. It would create a rage similar to what casablanca did at saddleback if it can be reached with a short…
