I've heard through a credible source that the loaf will announce on monday the installation of a tram up gondi line for next season...anyone else hear this rumor?

Did every one forget about the wind? Also, when the gondi did run, there were long lines at both the bottom and the mid station.
I would settle for a rope tow from the top of spillway short side to the very top. It could run in the wind and other adverse conditions, and because it is an inconvenience to ride a rope tow, only the true adventurers would head for the very top.

HOW ABOUT A T BAR UP GONDI????????

I LOVE the idea of a T bar, it would be inexpensive not subject to windholds and would keep the "joeys" off of the summit. I hike to the summit from top of the superquad probably 4 times a year just to get tracks on white nitro ext, i wouldn't even want to think about a "joey" being up there.

I think people at sugarloaf and the community are not much different then anywhere else , you all have a "give it to me now, but dont make me pay for it" attitude. Maybe the loaf should incorporate a "expansion fee" in the tickets, and use that fund to raise money for the project, and if you dont like the idea and want t whine about it go ski SOMEWHERE else. The key reason i ski at the loaf" is the atmosphere, coupled with a great mountain, yeah the lift layout SUX, and sunday river BLOWS the doors off the loaf in that department, but the loaf is an incredible place to ski. T bar is a great option, leave the SNOWFIELDS alone, we DO NOT want beginners over there, no one wants to ski around bodys on the way down the backside.

As for the pricing saddleback is expanding, according to a recent media release we seen the company expects to match sugarloaf's flow of skiers and revenue (lift tickets only) in the next two years, and when they finish the mountain expansion along with the new lift and new trails they put in this summer, sugarloaf will have a formidable competitor 1 hour to the north.

I ski saddleback because its not as croweed, the employees are always super happy like the have drugs in them, and not a lot of the "yahoo tourists" hang out there.

The loaf works, if we want to improve it we should PAY for it, stop bitching and expecting things to grow for free, great job seth, and may the idea come to life in the next 5 years!

It would be no different then "joeys" riding up timberline, you would get off both of the lifts in the same area and you would still have to hike to the backside.

I recently went to Jackson Hole and while riding in the tram I had a conversation with the employee that was running it. He said that the tram was able to run with winds around 70mph and the gondola that they have will run with winds up to 100mph. So I would have to think that Sugarloaf would be able to get a lift that will be able to deal with high winds.

Lets stop throwing around' Joeys' on this website. lose the egos. and talk skiing, and some change for the mountain. Whether it be a Gondi, Tbar, or Chair. Something new would be fantastic as long as it is mid mountain.

I agree. its the "joey's" that we need to attract with a new lift to be able to pay it off, and help keep the mountain running through retail, food, and ticket sales etc.

i'm fine with "Joeys" at the loaf. I was just saying that the amount of "joeys" going to the summit would be no different with a gondi then with timberline

First of all, this discussion has entered the realm of pointlessness now. Second, I think one of Sugarloaf's attributes is that is doesn't attract inexperienced, careless, and disrespectful skier/riders that people call "joeys." We are lucky.

One thing that I'm really looking forward to with the Gondola is the fact that on a pow pow day, when they open the Gondola the crowds will disperse and have their choice of untouched powder in all directions. Usually it's like one lift that opens first (superquad usually it seems), and in the first 3 runs everything is skied out that it can access, then the other lifts open, and the same thing happens to those trails. I think that this will help the whole mountain track out a bit more evenly, and maybe allow for a few extra runs where there's mostly untouched snow, mostly just due to everyone going in different directions.

Btw, I like the idea that was tossed out in Seth's presentation of a Zipline down the Gondola path in the summer, from summit to base. I imagine that would be much more exciting/faster than the ones at other nearby resorts. None of those are that high.

Like it or not, there will be beginners/intermediates tempted to ride the new lift right to the top, so I expect the mtn will put up decent signage telling people what kind of terrain is accessible. Fortunately I think the epic view, and steepness of the terrain will coax those people who don't listen to take tote extension or timberline rather than the snowfields, gondi, nitro etc...

At one point we were all "joey's" and just learning how to ski, remember that. We all love Sugarloaf because of it's unique terrain for the East - you can ride to the top with a novice skiier you are introducing to the sport while they take a safe route they feel comfortable down (Timberline), while maybe some of you non-joey's can then ski down the backside and all meet back together at the bottom. Seth is right, (and honestly, we are probably all "joey's" compared to his abilities) everyone should take a look at the unique, positive qualities of the Loaf and highlight those instead of being affraid of change and tossing out the first negative comment that comes to mind. How many other ski resorts can offer BOTH novice and expert terrain from the very top, above treeline??

Bring on the Joey's in the Tram - who know's, maybe they will out ski all of you "non-joey's" in a couple years of riding that new tram. ;-)

I agree with what Jess said. I used to be a joey even though I now am a pretty decent skier. This year, I am trying tele again so I will once again be a "joey" while a learn. So before you call someone a joey, think that they may already be an accomplished skier, boarder who is trying something new.

I have a question on how far down the mountain phase 1 will go. The map shows it all the way to Snowbrook /lower part of Woody Creek. Is this really where it will end or will it somehow end onto the Stubb's Glase condo access trail? Mtnbrew
